Services for the Elderly
Vision Urbana’s Older Adult Services provide comprehensive, culturally responsive support to aging residents of the Lower East Side, with a focus on serving low-income, minority, and linguistically diverse communities. Through a trio of core initiatives—NORC Program, our Older Adult Center, and Elder Abuse Prevention—we address the physical, emotional, legal, and social needs of over 1,000 older adults annually.
Our DFTA-funded NORC program serves older adults aged 55+ living in the Seward Park Extension, Grand Street Guild, and Frances Goldin Senior Housing. We provide onsite and in-home nursing care, bilingual health screenings, mental health support, case management, wellness classes (including yoga and dance), nutrition planning, and culturally relevant health education—in English, Spanish, and Chinese.
Located at 65 Norfolk Street, our Older Adult Center offers a safe, welcoming space for social, educational, and wellness enrichment. With on-site case managers and social workers, the center supports benefit access, housing navigation, translation, digital literacy, and workshops in areas such as Tai Chi, sewing, and elder abuse prevention. Since 2016, the Center has been a vital hub for older adults in Community District 3.
As the only community-based elder abuse program rooted in the Lower East Side’s NYCHA communities, Vision Urbana provides counseling, legal referrals, health assessments, and support groups. Our multilingual outreach includes educational campaigns and workshops addressing elder abuse, mental health, and legal protection. Through partnerships like NYLAG, we also offer Advance Care Planning, helping older adults prepare for medical decision-making with dignity and legal safeguards.
