A Healthier Community
Vision Urbana’s health and nutrition programs work together to uplift the well-being of Lower East Side residents. From providing reliable access to food and trusted health education to restoring vital clinic services, our initiatives serve the community’s most pressing needs. Focused on older adults, low-income families, and communities of color, our work addresses long-standing health disparities through culturally competent care, strong local partnerships, and responsive grassroots leadership.
Held monthly at Primitive Christian Church, our multilingual health forums connect residents with medical professionals to learn about chronic and infectious diseases. In partnership with the Latino Commission on AIDS, these forums are part of a citywide Faith-Based Initiative, offering accessible education in English, Spanish, and Chinese since 2012.
As a registered Emergency Food Relief Organization, Vision Urbana distributes food to over 2,000 households weekly across 12 NYCHA sites and nearby low-income housing. A member of City Harvest, United Way, and Food Bank for NYC, we also operate a NYCHA-led distribution network and deliver nearly one million pounds of food annually with our own box truck.
Vision Urbana is reopening a shuttered health clinic at 60 Madison Street to serve older adults and underserved populations with diagnostic and preventative care. Located in a heavily impacted NYCHA area, the new center addresses the health fallout from 9/11, Sandy, and COVID-19, bringing critical care back to a historically overlooked community.
