Health & Wellness Center
As a natural extension of our longstanding commitment to health equity, Vision Urbana (VU) is proud to announce the development of a new Health and Wellness Center at 60 Madison Street. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a culturally responsive hub for diagnostic and preventive care, prioritizing older adults and historically underserved minority populations. Through individualized health assessments and personalized treatment plans, the Center will work to prevent and mitigate chronic illnesses while fostering long-term wellness.
This initiative is deeply rooted in community advocacy. At the urging of the Alfred E. Smith Tenants Association, VU stepped forward to revive a shuttered community health center within the Alfred E. Smith NYCHA development—a critical resource that had been absent for years. With support from residents, elected officials, and local stakeholders, Vision Urbana has committed to restoring essential health services in an area disproportionately affected by multiple public health crises, including 9/11, Hurricane Sandy, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The surrounding neighborhood—bounded by the Brooklyn Bridge, East River, Chatham Square, and near the Manhattan Bridge—sits within the Ground Zero catchment area and is home to a vibrant community primarily composed of Latino, Asian, and African American/Black residents. The closure of the previous medical facility, once operated by NYC Health and Hospitals/Gouverneur Clinic, in 2016 left a significant gap in care for low-income, working-class families.
Scheduled for completion in the near future, the Vision Urbana Health and Wellness Center will not only restore health access—it will also serve as a symbol of renewal, equity, and resilience for one of New York City's most historically underserved neighborhoods.
