Public Health for Our Community
As part of Vision Urbana’s holistic commitment to community well-being, our Monthly Community Health Forums provide residents of the Lower East Side with free, multilingual access to vital health education. Hosted at the historic Primitive Christian Church, a cornerstone for Hispanic and migrant communities since 1954, these forums are led by a trusted network of medical professionals, including doctors and healthcare practitioners from partnering hospitals and clinics.
Offered in English, Spanish, and Mandarin, the forums deliver culturally relevant, accessible presentations on critical topics such as heart disease, cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, and other chronic and infectious conditions impacting our community. Each session features a dynamic visual presentation on a theater-sized screen, followed by an open Q&A session that encourages dialogue and empowers residents with knowledge and prevention strategies.
These monthly forums are made possible through Vision Urbana’s partnership with the Latino Commission on AIDS, as part of the city-funded HIV/AIDS Faith-Based Initiative. Together, we serve as part of a broader network of 27 churches and faith-based organizations citywide under the Local Religious Leadership Program, uniting faith and healthcare for lasting impact.
Since 2012, this initiative has strengthened community trust, reduced barriers to health literacy, and fostered lasting relationships between local residents and healthcare professionals.
